In Persian and Urdu epistolary tradition, 'sar-nama' refers to the superscription, opening heading, or address written on the top or envelope of a letter. In this couplet by Ghalib, the lover has drawn the sketch of an eye upon the heading of his epistle so that the beloved immediately recognizes his longing to behold her before even reading the contents.
