सिपंद
sipand
Meaning
Wild rue seeds burned against the evil eye, known for bursting in flames.
Detailed Meaning
Sipand refers to the seeds of wild rue (harmal) thrown onto glowing embers to ward off the evil eye, which crackle violently and produce dark, aromatic smoke. In classical poetry, it is a quintessential metaphor for extreme agony, inner restlessness, and jumping agitation caused by the fire of passion. In this couplet, 'dood-e-sipand' (rue-smoke) links the dark spot of the inner heart (suwaida) to the sigh reaching the lips.

Usage
In Urdu ghazal, sipand is frequently coupled with fire to express the lover's frantic, involuntary writhing and uncontrollable sighs.
