In classical Urdu poetry, 'waswasa' denotes an obsessive doubt, superstitious apprehension, or creeping dread. In this couplet by Mir Taqi Mir, it refers to the terrifying awe and dread instilled by the poet's dawn-sigh, described metaphorically as a piercing spear. The sun is portrayed as holding up a shield (the clouds) out of sheer dread of that spear.
