In classical Urdu poetry, 'maurid' refers to the recipient, locus, or object upon which something (such as favor or wrath) descends. In this couplet, 'maurid-e-ināyat' designates the rival (ghair) as the sole recipient of the beloved's grace. The speaker laments that despite their own genuine affection, the beloved's kindness is reserved exclusively for a stranger.
