Etymology
Arabic مُتَّفِق (muttafiq), active participle of the VIII form verb ittifaqa (اِتَّفَقَ - to agree, unite), derived from the root w-f-q (و-ف-ق).

In classical ghazals, it is frequently combined with 'bāham' (muttafiq bāham) to depict cruelty or adversity colluding against the helpless lover.
