Word Meaning
मुआ
mu'ā
hiverb
Meaning
Died, perished, or became completely infatuated and smitten.
Detailed Meaning
In classical poetry, 'mu'ā' is an older or colloquial past-tense form of 'marnā' (to die). In this couplet, it highlights an ironic twist: Khizr, who found the water of life and is immortal, paradoxically 'died' or lost his life upon falling for the youth's fresh green facial hair (khaṭṭ-e-sabz). It conveys both literal death and intense emotional surrender to beauty.
Etymology
From Sanskrit mṛta (dead) through Prakrit mua into Old Hindi and classical Urdu.
Usage
Commonly employed in classical ghazals both literally for succumbing to death and idiomatically for being fatally charmed by the beloved.
