In classical Urdu poetry, 'barahnagī' denotes physical nakedness as well as symbolic, spiritual, or existential exposure. In this couplet, it highlights the shame and exposed flaws of the speaker's mortal existence, which no living attire could hide until the shroud of death concealed them. It often embodies the extreme renunciation of the maddened lover (majnūn) or the destitute vulnerability of human existence.
