In classical Sufi thought and poetry, 'biz-zaat' (Arabic bi-l-dhat) denotes existing intrinsically and independently by virtue of one's own essence. In this couplet, it describes the Divine existing ubiquitously in absolute essence, which can be perceived only when the eye of the heart opens. It contrasts pure essence with mere manifest attributes.
