An archaic and classical poetic form of 'फ़रमाएँगे' (farmaayenge), meaning 'they will do' or 'they will bestow' in an honorific tone. In Ghalib's couplet, it is used with gentle irony to describe the futile efforts ('sa'i') friends might make to comfort the afflicted lover. The speaker questions whether their sympathy can heal his wounds before madness causes his fingernails to grow back.
Etymology
From Persian 'farmūdan' (to order, say, or do honorifically) adapted into Urdu with the classical Indo-Aryan future verbal inflection '-avenge'.
Usage
A characteristic feature of classical 18th- and 19th-century ghazal diction, the '-avenge' suffix was later replaced by '-aayenge' in standard modern Hindustani.
