Literally meaning 'filled with water', in classical Persian and Urdu verse it most often qualifies the eye ('chashm-e-pur-āb') to indicate weeping or sorrow. In this couplet, the poet observes morning dew upon a blooming rose, realizing that what initially looked like a laughing face ('roo-e-khandān') was actually a tear-filled eye weeping in melancholy. It may also describe a pearl or gem of brilliant water and lustre.
