Word Meaning
निस्यह
nisya
Meaning
Credit, deferred payment, or something promised for the future.
Detailed Meaning
In classical Urdu poetry, 'nisya' denotes credit or postponement, almost always juxtaposed with 'naqd' (cash or immediate presence). In this couplet, 'nisya-o-naqd-e-do-aalam' metaphorically refers to the promised rewards of the hereafter versus the immediate pleasures of this world. The poet declares that his elevated ambition has transcended both worldly gains and otherworldly expectations.
Etymology
Arabic (نَسِيئَة / نسیة), from the root relating to delay, postponement, or buying on credit.
Usage
It is traditionally paired as a polar opposite with 'naqd' in ghazals to contrast the promised bliss of heaven with the present reality of earthly existence.
Examples
The contrast between cash and credit
Considering tomorrow's promise merely a deferred debt
