Word Meaning
निभे
nibhe
Meaning
To endure, succeed, be sustained, or work out smoothly.
Detailed Meaning
In classical poetry, 'nibhna' conveys carrying through a commitment, sustaining an ordeal, or having an action succeed. In this couplet, it means that the cruel trick or deceptive way ('chaal') of the sky (fate) will not succeed or last. The poet asserts that while he endured fate's harshness, such injustice cannot perpetually sustain itself.
Etymology
Derived from Sanskrit 'निर्वाह' (nirvāha - completion, sustenance), developing through Prakrit into Hindustani 'निभना / نبھنا'.
Usage
Commonly used in ghazals to evoke the difficulty of sustaining vows of love or to challenge the lasting power of an adversary's deceit.
Examples
This bond of fidelity will hardly endure.
Your deceptive trick will not work here.
