Word Meaning
छोड़ो
chhoṛo
Meaning
Leave, abandon, release, or let be (imperative form).
Detailed Meaning
In Urdu poetry, 'छोड़ो' (chhoṛo) is the second-person imperative form of the verb 'छोड़ना' (to leave or let go). In this couplet, it serves as a plea of humble resignation, imploring companions or pious guides to leave the poet by the purifying waters of Zamzam rather than urging him to circumambulate the Kaaba. It conveys a poignant admission of transgressions and deep spiritual unworthiness.
Etymology
Inherited from Prakrit, derived from the Sanskrit root छुड् (chhuḍ, meaning to abandon, loose, or cast off).
Usage
In classical ghazal, it is frequently addressed to the advisor (nāsiḥ) or beloved to dismiss counsel, renounce hope, or accept one's desolation.
Examples
Leave me to my own sorrow.
Let go of this grievance now.
