Solitude, privacy, seclusion, or a private retreat.
Detailed Meaning
In classical Urdu and Persian verse, 'khalwat' refers to solitude, seclusion, or an intimate private chamber secluded from the public gaze. In this couplet, 'khalwat-e-namoos' represents the sanctuary of honor and modesty illuminated by the beloved. It is conventionally contrasted with 'jalwat', the sphere of public appearance.

Usage
In the ghazal tradition, it is frequently paired antithetically with 'jalwat' to contrast inner spiritual devotion or hidden intimacy with external worldly society.
