Quyood

Restrictions, bonds, constraints, or conventional limitations.
Detailed Meaning
In classical Urdu poetry, 'quyood' refers to the shackles, constraints, or rigid conventions imposed by society and orthodox traditions. In Ghalib's verse, it signifies the ceremonial obligations and mental bindings from which even the legendary lover Farhad (Kohkan) could not free himself, requiring an instrument like the pickaxe to end his life instead of perishing purely through passion.

Arabic (قُيُود, quyūd), broken plural form of the noun 'qayd' (قَيْد), meaning fetter, bound, restriction, or restraint.
Usage
Often paired with 'rusoom' as the hendiadys 'rusoom-o-quyood', symbolizing societal and dogmatic barriers that impede true spiritual or romantic ecstasy.
Examples
