Word Meaning
कैमूस
kaimoos
Meaning
Chyme; digested food fluid in Unani medicine that converts into blood.
Detailed Meaning
In traditional Greco-Arabic (Unani) medicine, 'kaimoos' refers to chyme, the semi-fluid pulp of partly digested food formed in the stomach before it is converted into blood by the liver. In Ghalib's verse, it symbolizes the conventional digestive nourishment of the body. The poet boasts that he sustained his grief purely on his own heart's blood, completely unindebted to food or the biological process of digestion.
Etymology
Greek 'chymós' (juice/humour) via Arabic 'kaymūs' (کیموس).
Usage
A technical Greco-Arabic medical term rarely used in Urdu poetry outside of Ghalib's intricate physiological metaphors.
