Word Meaning
उठेंगे
uthenge
Meaning
Will rise, get up, or depart (future tense plural).
Detailed Meaning
This is the masculine plural future tense form of the verb 'ut̲h̲nā' (to rise or get up). In Nasir Kazmi's couplet, it suggests getting up from a state of languor, sadness, or an intimate gathering to step out into the city. It conveys a deliberate, nonchalant ease—the speaker feels no despair because when they decide to move, they can simply procure another heart from the bazaar.
Etymology
Derived from Sanskrit उत्तिष्ठति (uttiṣṭhati, 'to stand up, rise') through Prakrit उट्ठइ (uṭṭhaï) into Hindustani उठना / اٹھنا.
Usage
In Urdu ghazal, it commonly describes the physical departure from the beloved's gathering or the metaphorical arising of tumult and catastrophe (fitna/qayamat).
Examples
When we rise from this assembly, none shall remain.
A hundred sighs of grief will rise from our hearts.
