Word Meaning
उज़्लत
uzlat
Meaning
Solitude, seclusion, retirement from the world, or isolation.
Detailed Meaning
'Uzlat' denotes ascetic withdrawal, seclusion, or complete isolation from society. In this couplet, the poet mockingly tells the pious ascetic (Shaikh) that solitude is guaranteed even beneath the soil of the grave, so one should enjoy exploring the fleeting wonder of creation while alive. It sets worldly wandering against static renunciation.
Etymology
Arabic root ع-ز-ل (ʿ-z-l), meaning to remove, set aside, or detach; imported into Urdu via Persian.
Usage
In classical Urdu poetry, 'uzlat' represents the aloof seclusion of the Shaikh or ascetic, often contrasted with the lover's active wandering and engagement with beauty.
Examples
Forgetting the world in the desire for solitude
Finding peace of mind in the secluded corner of retirement
