શરાબનો ઇનકાર

The verses

1. આવું કહો, ક્યાં એકલો? આશક જહાં થાતી નથી; પ્યાલું ભર્યું આઃ ના કદર, પીવા જહાં પ્યાલી નથી.

   Meaning: Tell me, where am I alone? Where no lover is found;This full cup, alas, unvalued, where no chalice is found.

2. સોબત વિના કેવી શરાબી? શી ખુમારી એકલા? આ જામ પ્યારું ઝિન્દગીથી તો ય ચૂમાતું નથી.

   Meaning: What kind of drunkard without company, what intoxication alone?This goblet, dearer than life, still remains unkissed.

3. તાઝિમોથી, ઈશ્કથી, લાખો ખુશામદથી. અગર− જાઉં જહાંને લાવવા, તો ત્યાં મઝા એને નથી.

   Meaning: With honours, with love, with countless flatteries; if I Bring forth the world, no joy would they then find.

4. આશક થઈ પ્યાસી હશે આલમ તમારી એક દીઃ સાથે લઈ પીણું શરાબી, હુઝ્ર ત્યાં પીવા નથી.

   Meaning: Your world, as a lover, must have thirsted for you one day:O drunkard, take your drink, for the Beloved's presence is not there to share.
