The verses

1. ભિખારણ ગીત મઝાનું ગાય, આંખે ઝળઝળિયાં આવે ને અમૃત કાનોમાં રેડાય,

   Meaning: A beggar woman sings a lovely song, Tears well up in eyes, and nectar into ears is poured.

2. એને કંઠે રમતું ગાણું, એને હૈયું દમતી હાય, ભિખારણ ગીત મઝાનું ગાય.

   Meaning: A song plays in her throat, a suppressed sigh in her heart,The beggar woman sings a beautiful song.

3. ગાતી ઊંચે ઊંચે સાદે ત્યારે ઘાંટો બેસી જાય, ભિખારણ ગીત મઝાનું ગાય.

   Meaning: Singing in a high-pitched voice, her throat gets hoarse, The beggar woman sings a delightful song.

4. વાયુ ફાગણનો વિંઝાય; માથું ધૂળ વડે ઢંકાય.

   Meaning: The wind of Phagan blows; My head gets covered with dust.

5. એના વાળે વાળે જૂઓ બબ્બે હાથે ખણતી જાય, ભિખારણ ગીત મઝાનું ગાય.

   Meaning: See her scratching with both hands in her hair,The beggar woman sings a delightful song.

6. એની શ્રદ્ધા, એનું ગીત, એનો પરભૂ, એની પ્રીત.

   Meaning: His faith, his song,His Lord, his love.

7. એની અણસમજી ઇચ્છાઓ જાણે હૈયું કોરી ખાય, આંખે ઝળઝળિયાં આવે ને અમૃત કાનોમાં રેડાય,

   Meaning: Her naive desires, it seems, gnaw and eat away the heart,Tears well up in the eyes, and nectar is poured into the ears.
