Ghazal
Beyond Words Is the Unmanifest
This verse reflects on the ineffable nature of the formless divine, comparing spiritual realization to a mute person savoring a sweet fruit—deeply felt within yet impossible to convey in words. It conveys that divine bliss transcends speech and intellect, known solely through direct, personal experience.

ज्यों गूँगे मीठे फलको रस अंतर्गतही भावे ॥
The nature of the Unmanifest defies all speech and art, like a mute savoring sweet fruit solely within the heart.
The state of the unmanifest Divine cannot be described in words, just as a mute person experiences the sweetness of a fruit only internally but cannot express it.

मन वाणीको अगम अगोचर सो जाने जो पावे ॥
A supreme savor yielding boundless, ceaseless contentment to the soul; Beyond the reach of mind and speech, known only to the one who attains it.
The supreme bliss continually yields boundless contentment; it is beyond the reach of mind and speech, and only the one who experiences it can know it.

Lacking form, outline, attribute, caste, or device, the mind wanders bewildered without any anchor; Deeming Him unapproachable in every way, Surdas sings the praises of His embodied divine plays.
Without form, features, attributes, lineage, or any device, the unsupported mind wanders bewildered; deeming Him completely unapproachable in this formless state, Surdas sings the verses of His manifest divine plays.
