No rose's budding redness matches your mouth's crimson hue,
Nor has the jasmine's purity the radiance your body knew.
Neither does the flower's bud possess the redness of your mouth, nor does the jasmine have the clarity and purity of your body.
2
Why should I not blossom, for by that rose-bodied one's coming,
Spring today has filled my house as though it were a garden?
Why would I not bloom with joy, for with the coming of that flower-bodied one, today my house is filled with spring as if it were a garden?
3
This lightning glimpsed within the clouds brings back to mind
The shimmer of nine jewels in someone's veil entwined
Seeing this lightning amid the clouds brings to memory that shimmer, like the gleam of nine jewels in someone's veil.
4
Why gaze upon the rose's hue, O lovely ones? These very tints are but the colors of your own garment.
O beautiful ones, why do you gaze at the flower's color? These hues are just like those of your own garment.
5
The heart that flourished in our union's bloom—alas, in parting from you,
Its shape has now become a wasted, desolate wilderness.
The heart that was flourishing and populated in union with you—alas, in separation from you its state has now become like a ruined, desolate wilderness.
6
No longer liken your soft body to the sword-lily's bloom
Just see—can its tenderness ever match the softness of your frame?
Do not compare your body to the sword-lily's bloom any longer. Just look—can its softness ever be like the tenderness of your frame?
7
The sole of your tender foot, soft as velvet, how could its purity ever be—like that of the wild white rose?
The sole of your foot is soft like velvet, so its purity and delicacy must surely be like that of the nastaran, the wild white rose.
8
Nazeer, write one more ghazal in this same ground,
for now the flowing grace of your own verse grows scarce around.
Nazeer, write one more ghazal in this same metre and rhyme, so that now the flowing grace resembling your own verse may somewhat lessen.
