The Bure Mughbachon Ke Tewar Lek — Mir Taqi Mir
थे बुरे मुग़्बचों के तेवर लेक
शैख़ मय-ख़ाने से भला खिसका
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
He slipped away from the tavern of the sheikh, taking the demeanor of bad rogues.
Explanation
This profound couplet captures the eternal struggle of the sensitive soul. The poet asks if the temperament of bad company or negative influences has truly left the 'tavern'—the metaphorical place of intoxication, which often represents the world or the heart. It suggests that even when we think we've escaped bad habits or bad company, the underlying tendency or influence remains, making freedom elusive.
