मरबूत हैं तुझ से भी यही नाक्स-ओ-नाअहल
उस बाग़ में हम ने गुल-ए-बे-ख़ार न पाया
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
We are certain of this, even from you, the absence of sorrow and distress, but in that garden, we could not find a flower without thorns.
Explanation
This profound couplet by Mir Taqi Mir speaks to the disappointment found in love. The poet observes that the beloved, despite everything, retains its inherent flaws (naqsh-o-na'ahil). Because of these imperfections, the speaker realizes that true perfection—the thornless flower (gul-e-be-khaar)—is unattainable in that relationship or garden of life. It is a lament about the unavoidable flaws in human connection.
