Ghazal
This ghazal speaks about self-control and suppressing emotions. It advises that one should not openly express desires or yearning, as doing so will only amplify the pain and suffering. The poet suggests that experiencing the heart's distress can ignite a consuming fire throughout the body.

Keep your mouth shut, keep your burning within yourself,
Take this bound fist and walk through this garden.
Keep your mouth shut and your burning feelings within yourself, and take this bound fist and walk through this garden.

Oh friend, do not let my face enter your eyes,
For my yearning is within the shroud.
Oh friend, do not let my face enter your eyes, for my yearning is within the shroud.

Holding the hand upon the heart, sighing,
Holding the hand upon the heart and sighing, a lamp cannot remain in such a wind.

Hearing of the distress of a burnt heart,
Fire has spread throughout the entire body.
Upon hearing of the distress of a burnt heart, fire has spread throughout the entire body.

O Saqi, without you, we returned to consciousness,
The traveler often remains in his own homeland.
O Saqi, although we regained our consciousness without you, the traveler often remains in his own homeland.

The chain became dull, lest the madness passing
Was once beautiful in its spree.
The chain grew dull, lest the passing madness was beautiful in its spree.

Where have the lamps and moths of the evening gone,
There were so many flames in this garden.
Where have the lamps and moths of the evening gone? There were so many flames in this garden. (Meaning: This garden was once vibrant and lively, so where have the sources of light and excitement vanished?)

Where am I, capable of such speech, or capable of such verse?
It is in the talk of friends that we find doubt's pleasure.
Where am I, capable of such speech, or capable of such verse? It is in the talk of friends that we find doubt's pleasure.

In the intoxication of love, even my buttock (or self) has been lost, O Meer; this is now the deception in the clothing.
