सादगी पर उस की मर जाने की हसरत दिल में है बस नहीं चलता कि फिर ख़ंजर कफ़-ए-क़ातिल में है
The longing to die for her simplicity is in my heart; I am powerless, for the dagger is again in the killer's hand.
My heart yearns to die for her simplicity, but I am powerless to resist, for the dagger is again in the killer's hand.

देखना तक़रीर की लज़्ज़त कि जो उस ने कहा मैं ने ये जाना कि गोया ये भी मेरे दिल में है
Behold the pleasure of his speech, for what he did convey,I felt as though it, too, in my own heart did stay.

गरचे है किस किस बुराई से वले बाईं-हमा ज़िक्र मेरा मुझ से बेहतर है कि उस महफ़िल में है

बस हुजूम-ए-ना-उमीदी ख़ाक में मिल जाएगी ये जो इक लज़्ज़त हमारी सई-ए-बे-हासिल में है
The throng of despair will simply turn to dust,This very joy that's in our fruitless quest.

रंज-ए-रह क्यूँ खींचिए वामांदगी को इश्क़ है उठ नहीं सकता हमारा जो क़दम मंज़िल में है
Why should one bear the journey's strife, when lassitude's my dear?Our foot that's reached the journey's end, can't lift itself from here.
Why bear the journey's pain when one is enamored with weariness? Our foot, which is at the destination, cannot be lifted.
