Ghazal
फिर मुझे दीदा-ए-तर याद आया
This ghazal expresses the intense sorrow and pain of separation from a beloved. The speaker is constantly reminded of their tearful state and the overwhelming grief caused by the beloved's departure, feeling as though doomsday arrived with their leaving. It captures a deep sense of longing and lamentation.

फिर मुझे दीदा-ए-तर याद आया
दिल जिगर तिश्ना-ए-फ़रयाद आया
Again, my tear-filled eyes came to mind,My heart and liver came, thirsty for lamentation.
Again, the tearful eye came to my mind. My heart and liver felt a strong thirst for a plea or lament.

दम लिया था न क़यामत ने हनूज़
फिर तिरा वक़्त-ए-सफ़र याद आया
Even Doomsday had not yet drawn its breath,then your departure's hour returned to thought.
Doomsday had not yet even taken a breath when your time of departure came to my mind.

सादगी-हा-ए-तमन्ना या'नी
फिर वो नैरंग-ए-नज़र याद आया
The simplicities of yearning—that is to say,Again, that wondrous magic of her gaze, I recalled.
Mentioning the simplicity of my desires, I again recalled the enchanting spell of that gaze.

उज़्र-ए-वामांदगी ऐ हसरत-ए-दिल
नाला करता था जिगर याद आया
My heart's longing, pleading inability,Let out a cry, and then my 'jigar' I recalled.
O heart's desire, the excuse for my languor was that I was lamenting. Then my courage came to mind.

ज़िंदगी यूँ भी गुज़र ही जाती
क्यूँ तिरा राहगुज़र याद आया
Life would have passed by anyway, why then did your path come to mind?
Life would have passed even so, why did your pathway or memory come to mind?

क्या ही रिज़वाँ से लड़ाई होगी
घर तिरा ख़ुल्द में गर याद आया
Oh, what a quarrel with Rizwan I'll provoke,If your home in paradise my memory invoke!
If your home comes to my mind while I am in Paradise, what a huge fight I will have with Rizwan, the guardian of Paradise.

आह वो जुरअत-ए-फ़रियाद कहाँ
दिल से तंग आ के जिगर याद आया
Alas, where is that courage to complain?Weary of heart, my spirit was recalled.
Alas, where is that courage to lament or complain now? Having grown weary of the heart's troubles, I remembered my inner strength or resolve.

फिर तिरे कूचे को जाता है ख़याल
दिल-ए-गुम-गश्ता मगर याद आया
Again my thoughts turn to your lane,As if the lost heart remembered again.
My thoughts again go towards your lane. Did the lost heart, however, remember?

कोई वीरानी सी वीरानी है
दश्त को देख के घर याद आया
Such a desolation, this desolation is, Seeing the wilderness, my home I recall.
There is a strange and profound desolation. Looking at the desert, I remembered my home.

मैं ने मजनूँ पे लड़कपन में 'असद'
संग उठाया था कि सर याद आया
In my youth, Asad, I lifted a stone at Majnun,Then my own head came to mind, and I paused.
In my childhood, Asad, I had picked up a stone to throw at Majnu, but then I remembered my own head.

वस्ल में हिज्र का डर याद आया
ऐन जन्नत में सक़र याद आया
In union, the fear of separation came to mind; In very paradise, hell was recalled.
In the moment of union, the fear of separation came to mind. Even in paradise itself, the dread of hell was remembered.
