हुस्न-ए-मह गरचे ब-हंगाम-ए-कमाल अच्छा है
This ghazal extols the unparalleled beauty of the beloved, asserting it surpasses even the moon at its peak. It humorously depicts the beloved's teasing nature, withholding affection while subtly valuing what comes freely. The poet also conveys a preference for simple, replaceable joys and the dignity of receiving without solicitation.

हुस्न-ए-मह गरचे ब-हंगाम-ए-कमाल अच्छा है
उस से मेरा मह-ए-ख़ुर्शीद-जमाल अच्छा है
Though the beauty of the moon is good at its perfection, My moon-faced beloved, with sun-like splendor, is better than it.
Though the moon's beauty is good at its peak, my beloved, whose face is like the moon and splendor like the sun, is better than it.

बोसा देते नहीं और दिल पे है हर लहज़ा निगाह
जी में कहते हैं कि मुफ़्त आए तो माल अच्छा है
They don't grant a kiss, yet their gaze is every moment on my heart;In their minds they say, 'If it comes for free, then the goods are good!'
They refuse a kiss, yet their eyes constantly rest on my heart. They inwardly think, 'If it comes for free, then it's a good bargain.'

और बाज़ार से ले आए अगर टूट गया
साग़र-ए-जम से मिरा जाम-ए-सिफ़ाल अच्छा है
And if it breaks, another from the market I'd acquire,My earthen cup is better than Jamshid's famed saghar.
My simple earthen cup is better than Jamshid's legendary goblet, because if it breaks, I can easily buy another from the market.

बे-तलब दें तो मज़ा उस में सिवा मिलता है
वो गदा जिस को न हो ख़ू-ए-सवाल अच्छा है
If given unasked, the joy is indeed greater,Commendable is the beggar who's not accustomed to asking.
If something is given without being asked for, the joy derived from it is much greater. Commendable is the beggar who does not have the habit of asking for things.

उन के देखे से जो आ जाती है मुँह पर रौनक़
वो समझते हैं कि बीमार का हाल अच्छा है
When by their sight a glow appears upon my face,
They deem the patient's state has found good grace.
When a glow appears on the face upon seeing them, they (the beloved) assume that the patient's (lover's) condition is good.

देखिए पाते हैं उश्शाक़ बुतों से क्या फ़ैज़
इक बरहमन ने कहा है कि ये साल अच्छा है
Let us see what gain the lovers find from idols;a Brahmin has said that this year is auspicious.
Let's observe what benefits lovers derive from their idols. A Brahmin has declared that this year is indeed a good one.

हम-सुख़न तेशा ने फ़रहाद को शीरीं से किया
जिस तरह का कि किसी में हो कमाल अच्छा है
His axe made Farhad converse with Shirin; Whatever kind of excellence one possesses is good.
Farhad's conversing axe connected him with Shirin. Whatever kind of excellence one possesses is good.

क़तरा दरिया में जो मिल जाए तो दरिया हो जाए
काम अच्छा है वो जिस का कि मआल अच्छा है
A drop, when it merges with the river, becomes the river's stream,Good is that deed whose ultimate outcome holds a noble gleam.
Just as a drop, when it merges with a river, becomes the river itself, a deed is considered good if its ultimate outcome is noble.

ख़िज़्र-सुल्ताँ को रखे ख़ालिक़-ए-अकबर सरसब्ज़
शाह के बाग़ में ये ताज़ा निहाल अच्छा है

हम को मालूम है जन्नत की हक़ीक़त लेकिन
दिल के ख़ुश रखने को 'ग़ालिब' ये ख़याल अच्छा है
