Ghazal
घर जब बना लिया तिरे दर पर कहे बग़ैर
This ghazal portrays a lover's profound, unacknowledged devotion, having made their home at the beloved's door without a word. Despite this silent sacrifice, the beloved remains unaware or indifferent to their presence. The poet expresses a deep, unspoken love for a beloved who is a known tyrant, highlighting the helplessness and ultimate dedication of the lover.

घर जब बना लिया तिरे दर पर कहे बग़ैर
जानेगा अब भी तू न मिरा घर कहे बग़ैर
A home at your door I've built, without a single word to say,
Will you still not know it's mine, unless I explicitly pray?
I have established my dwelling at your door without uttering a single word. Will you still not recognize it as my own unless I explicitly declare it?

कहते हैं जब रही न मुझे ताक़त-ए-सुख़न
जानूँ किसी के दिल की मैं क्यूँकर कहे बग़ैर
They say that when I lost the power of speech,
How could I know what's in a heart, without a word?
They say that when I lost my ability to speak, how could I possibly know what was in someone's heart without them expressing it?

काम उस से आ पड़ा है कि जिस का जहान में
लेवे न कोई नाम सितमगर कहे बग़ैर
My dealings are now with one in this world, Whose name none takes without calling them cruel.
My affairs are now with a person in this world, whose name no one takes without referring to them as a cruel oppressor.

जी में ही कुछ नहीं है हमारे वगरना हम
सर जाए या रहे न रहें पर कहे बग़ैर
It's merely that my heart has no such will, else I,Would speak my mind, though my head may fall, or I should die.
It is only that we do not have such a desire in our hearts, otherwise, we would speak our mind without fail, even if it meant losing our head or our very existence.

छोड़ूँगा मैं न उस बुत-ए-काफ़िर का पूजना
छोड़े न ख़ल्क़ गो मुझे काफ़र कहे बग़ैर
I will not forsake the worship of that infidel idol, though the world will not cease calling me an infidel.
I will not abandon the worship of that infidel idol, even if the world relentlessly calls me an infidel.

मक़्सद है नाज़-ओ-ग़म्ज़ा वले गुफ़्तुगू में काम
चलता नहीं है दशना-ओ-ख़ंजर कहे बग़ैर
Though grace and coquetry be the aim, in talk's subtle game,The matter moves not on without daggers and poniards proclaimed.
Even if the objective is grace and coquetry, in a conversation, the matter does not proceed without mentioning daggers and poniards.

हर चंद हो मुशाहिदा-ए-हक़ की गुफ़्तुगू
बनती नहीं है बादा-ओ-साग़र कहे बग़ैर
Though the discourse be on the vision of truth, it doesn't quite form without mentioning wine and the cup.
Even if the discourse is about the direct observation of truth, it doesn't quite take shape or feel complete without the mention of wine and the cup.

बहरा हूँ मैं तो चाहिए दूना हो इल्तिफ़ात
सुनता नहीं हूँ बात मुकर्रर कहे बग़ैर
As I am deaf, your kindness must be twofold,I cannot hear a word until it's twice told.
As I am deaf, your attention or kindness needs to be doubled. I cannot hear anything unless it is said repeatedly or twice.

'ग़ालिब' न कर हुज़ूर में तू बार बार अर्ज़
ज़ाहिर है तेरा हाल सब उन पर कहे बग़ैर
O Ghalib, in their presence, do not repeatedly make your plea,Your condition is clear to them all, even without you telling.
