साँस लेते हुए भी डरता हूँ

ये न समझें कि आह करता हूँ
saañs lete hue bhī Dartā huuñ
ye na samjheñ ki aah kartā huuñ

बहर-ए-हस्ती में हूँ मिसाल-ए-हबाब
मिट ही जाता हूँ जब उभरता हूँ
bahr-e-hastī meñ huuñ misāl-e-habāb
miT hī jaatā huuñ jab ubhartā huuñ

इतनी आज़ादी भी ग़नीमत है
साँस लेता हूँ बात करता हूँ
itnī āzādī bhī ġhanīmat hai
saañs letā huuñ baat kartā huuñ

शैख़ साहब ख़ुदा से डरते हों
मैं तो अंग्रेज़ों ही से डरता हूँ
shaiḳh sāhab ḳhudā se Darte hoñ
maiñ to añgrezoñ hī se Dartā huuñ

आप क्या पूछते हैं मेरा मिज़ाज
शुक्र अल्लाह का है मरता हूँ
aap kyā pūchhte haiñ merā mizāj
shukr allāh kā hai martā huuñ
6
ये बड़ा ऐब मुझ में है 'अकबर'
दिल में जो आए कह गुज़रता हूँ
ye baḌā aib mujh meñ hai 'akbar'
dil meñ jo aa.e kah guzartā huuñ
