मा'नी को भुला देती है सूरत है तो ये है
नेचर भी सबक़ सीख ले ज़ीनत है तो ये है
ma.anī ko bhulā detī hai sūrat hai to ye hai
nature bhī sabaq siikh le zīnat hai to ye hai

कमरे में जो हँसती हुई आई मिस-ए-राना
टीचर ने कहा इल्म की आफ़त है तो ये है
kamre meñ jo hañstī huī aa.ī mis-e-ra.anā
teacher ne kahā ilm kī aafat hai to ye hai

ये बात तो अच्छी है कि उल्फ़त हो मिसों से
हूर उन को समझते हैं क़यामत है तो ये है
ye baat to achchhī hai ki ulfat ho misoñ se
huur un ko samajhte haiñ qayāmat hai to ye hai

पेचीदा मसाइल के लिए जाते हैं इंग्लैण्ड
ज़ुल्फ़ों में उलझ आते हैं शामत है तो ये है
pechīda masā.il ke liye jaate haiñ england
zulfoñ meñ ulajh aate haiñ shāmat hai to ye hai

पब्लिक में ज़रा हाथ मिला लीजिए मुझ से
साहब मिरे ईमान की क़ीमत है तो ये है
public meñ zarā haath milā lījiye mujh se
sāhab mire īmān kī qīmat hai to ye hai
