दर्द तो मौजूद है दिल में दवा हो या न हो

दर्द तो मौजूद है दिल में दवा हो या न हो
बंदगी हालत से ज़ाहिर है ख़ुदा हो या न हो
The pain is ever-present in the heart, be there a cure or none; devotion is plain from my very plight, be there a God or none.
Pain is certainly present in the heart whether there is a cure or not, and devotion is evident from one's state whether God exists or not.

झूमती है शाख़-ए-गुल खिलते हैं ग़ुंचे दम-ब-दम
बा-असर गुलशन में तहरीक-ए-सबा हो या न हो
The flowering bough sways and buds blossom breath by breath, whether or not the morning breeze holds sway in the garden.
The flowering branch sways and buds blossom moment by moment, regardless of whether the movement of the morning breeze has any effect in the garden or not.

वज्द में लाते हैं मुझ को बुलबुलों के ज़मज़मे
आप के नज़दीक बा-मअ'नी सदा हो या न हो
The songs of nightingales entrance me in sweet ecstasy, whether their calls hold any meaning to you or not.
The songs of nightingales put me into a state of ecstasy, whether their voice holds any meaning to you or not.

कर दिया है ज़िंदगी ने बज़्म-ए-हस्ती में शरीक
उस का कुछ मक़्सूद कोई मुद्दआ हो या न हो
Life has drawn me into the banquet of existence as a guest, whether it harbors any intent, any true purpose or none.
Life has made me a part of the gathering of existence, regardless of whether it has any goal or purpose.

क्यूँ सिवल-सर्जन का आना रोकता है हम-नशीं
इस में है इक बात ऑनर की शिफ़ा हो या न हो
Why turn the Civil Surgeon away, my dear friend? A matter of prestige is at stake, whether a cure comes or not.
O companion, why do you stop the civil surgeon from coming? It is a matter of prestige, whether it results in a cure or not.

मौलवी साहिब न छोड़ेंगे ख़ुदा गो बख़्श दे
घेर ही लेंगे पुलिस वाले सज़ा हो या न हो
maulvī sāhib na chhoḌeñge ḳhudā go baḳhsh de
gher hī leñge police vaale sazā ho yā na ho

मिमबरी से आप पर तो वार्निश हो जाएगी
क़ौम की हालत में कुछ इस से जिला हो या न हो
membarī se aap par to vārnish ho jā.egī
qaum kī hālat meñ kuchh is se jilā ho yā na ho

मो'तरिज़ क्यूँ हो अगर समझे तुम्हें सय्याद दिल
ऐसे गेसू हूँ तो शुबह दाम का हो या न हो
mo'tariz kyuuñ ho agar samjhe tumheñ sayyād dil
aaise gesū huuñ to shubah daam kā ho yā na ho
