1. हम को मिटा सके ये ज़माने में दम नहीं हम से ज़माना ख़ुद है ज़माने से हम नहीं

   अर्थ: The world does not possess the might to wipe our name away; the world itself exists through us, not we beneath its sway.

2. बे-फ़ाएदा अलम नहीं बे-कार ग़म नहीं तौफ़ीक़ दे ख़ुदा तो ये नेमत भी कम नहीं

   अर्थ: Sorrow is not without its purpose, nor is grief in vain; should God bestow the grace to bear it, this blessing too is no small gain.

3. मिलता है क्यूँ मज़ा सितम-ए-रोज़गार में तेरा करम भी ख़ुद जो शरीक-ए-सितम नहीं

   अर्थ: Why do I find delight in the world's relentless cruelty, when even your own grace is not complicit in this torment?

4. मर्ग-ए-'जिगर' पे क्यूँ तिरी आँखें हैं अश्क-रेज़ इक सानेहा सही मगर इतना अहम नहीं

   अर्थ: Why do your eyes shed tears over Jigar's demise? / A tragedy it may be, yet not of such grave weight.
