मैं और सद-हज़ार नवा-ए-जिगर-ख़राश तू और एक वो न-शुनीदन कि क्या कहूँ

मज़मून-ए-वस्ल हाथ आया मगर उसे अब ताइर-ए-पर-बुरीदा-ए-रंग-ए-हिना कहूँ
The discourse of union, I failed to attain, Now what to call it? A henna-hued bird, with clipped wings, in vain.
The theme of union (with the beloved) could not be achieved, but now what should I call it/him/her? Like a bird with clipped wings, colored with henna.

दुज़्दीदन-ए-दिल-ए-सितम-आमादा है मुहाल मिज़्गाँ कहूँ कि जौहर-ए-तेग़-ए-क़ज़ा कहूँ
To steal a heart that's primed for torment, is an impossible feat;Shall I call them lashes, or the gleam of fate's deadly sword?

तर्ज़-आफ़रीन-ए-नुक्ता-सराई-ए-तब' है आईना-ए-ख़याल को तूती-नुमा कहूँ

'ग़ालिब' है रुत्बा-फ़हम-ए-तसव्वुर से कुछ परे है इज्ज़-ए-बंदगी कि 'अली को ख़ुदा कहूँ
Ghalib, his stature transcends imagination's thought, It is the humility of devotion that I call Ali 'God'.
Ghalib (I) am somewhat beyond the comprehension of imagination regarding status. It is the helplessness of my devotion that I call Ali God.
