1. तुम्हारे ख़त में नया इक सलाम किस का था न था रक़ीब तो आख़िर वो नाम किस का था

   अर्थ: Whose was that new greeting inscribed within your letter? If not the rival's, whose name was that, after all?

2. उठाई क्यूँ न क़यामत अदू के कूचे में लिहाज़ आप को वक़्त-ए-ख़िराम किस का था

   अर्थ: Why did you not unleash Doomsday in the rival's street? For whose regard did you restrain your graceful stride?

3. इन्हीं सिफ़ात से होता है आदमी मशहूर जो लुत्फ़ आम वो करते ये नाम किस का था

   अर्थ: It is through qualities such as these that a person gains renown; had their favors been bestowed on all, whose fame would this have been?

4. हर इक से कहते हैं क्या 'दाग़' बेवफ़ा निकला ये पूछे उन से कोई वो ग़ुलाम किस का था

   अर्थ: To everyone they lament, 'Did Daagh turn out to be untrue?' / Would someone ask them instead—whose devoted slave was he?
