1. तरीक़-ए-इश्क़ में मुझ को कोई कामिल नहीं मिलता गए फ़रहाद ओ मजनूँ अब किसी से दिल नहीं मिलता

   अर्थ: Along love's path, I find no soul accomplished and complete; Farhad and Majnun are gone, now none is there my heart would meet.

2. ये हुस्न ओ इश्क़ ही का काम है शुबह करें किस पर मिज़ाज उन का नहीं मिलता हमारा दिल नहीं मिलता

   अर्थ: This is the doing of Beauty and Love alone—whom should one suspect? / Their temperament does not relent, nor does our heart give in.

3. हवास-ओ-होश गुम हैं बहर-ए-इरफ़ान-ए-इलाही में यही दरिया है जिस में मौज को साहिल नहीं मिलता

   अर्थ: All senses and mind are lost in the ocean of divine insight; this is the boundless sea where no wave ever finds a shore.

4. किताब-ए-दिल मुझे काफ़ी है 'अकबर' दर्स-ए-हिकमत को मैं स्पेन्सर से मुस्तग़नी हूँ मुझ से मिल नहीं मिलता

   अर्थ: For lessons in wisdom, O Akbar, the book of the heart is enough for me; I have no need of Spencer, and with Mill I could never agree.
