तब-ए-ग़म तो गई तबीब वले
फिर न आया कभू मिज़ाज-ए-बहाल
— Mir Taqi Mir
Meaning
The sorrow's ailment was cured by the physician, but the state of wellness never returned.
Explanation
This profound couplet speaks of emotional recovery. The poet says that although the pain (gham) has left, the doctor (tabib) was unable to restore the natural state or temperament (mizaj-e-bahaal). It suggests that some wounds are so deep, they cannot be cured by mere remedies. Sometimes, the loss is so fundamental that even the best medicine cannot bring back what was lost.
