Ghazal
This ghazal describes the infinite and boundless power of the self (Khudi). It asserts that the self is an ocean without any shore, suggesting that even the strongest-looking structures can be broken by genuine courage. The poem emphasizes resilience, stating that one rises even after drowning in the self, and that the spirit is not merely a temporary illusion.

The self is an ocean that has no shore,
If you mistake it for mere water, there is no cure.
El self is an ocean that has no shore; if you mistake it for mere water, there is no remedy.

The spell of the dusty dome, they can break it,
For this structure of Zujaj is not stone of pure quartz.
The spell of the dusty dome can be broken, because this structure of Zujaj is not made of pure quartz stone.

They drown in their own being, yet they rise again,
But this is not the courage of a warrior-like man.
They sink into their own being and yet rise again, but this is not the courage of a warrior-like man.

How can the star-gazer know the station of the beloved,
That you are dust of the living, not the ashes of a star?
How can the star-gazer know the beloved's true state, that you are the dust of the living, and not the remains of a star?

Here there is Paradise, and Houris and Gabriel too,
Yet in your glance, the show of spectacle is not yet seen.
Here there is Paradise, and Houris and Gabriel too, but in your glance, the show of spectacle is not yet seen.

My passion made the world recognize me well,
It granted me a garment that was not a fleeting spell.
My passion made the world recognize me well; it granted me a garment that was not a fleeting spell.

How stingy is the nature, though full of grace and bounty,
For in the Beloved's essence, there is fire, not merely a spark.
How stingy is the nature, though full of grace and bounty, for in the Beloved's essence, there is fire, not merely a spark.
