Ghazal
This ghazal, imbued with a profound sense of regret, laments the cruel hand of fate that consumes beauty and worth, metaphorically making fingers fit for jewels into 'sustenance for teeth.' It further delves into the pain of personal heartbreak, portraying the beloved's refusal to give a ring and the sight of an empty finger at departure as a poignant symbol of rejection and unfulfilled promises, thereby capturing a deep sense of loss and separation.

Alas, that destiny fed to teeth's maw, by fate's decree,Those fingers, worthy of a pearl string's purity.
Alas, fate made the fingers of those people, whose fingers were worthy of wearing strings of pearls, the sustenance for teeth.

Sufficient is the sign, that you denied your ring, Just showed an empty finger at my journey's start.
Your not giving the ring is a sufficient sign, by showing me an empty finger at the time of departure.

I write, 'Asad', with my heart's fervent heat, my ardent lines I frame,So none can fault my words, nor question my claim.
I, Asad, write fervent words from the burning of my heart, so that no one can point a finger at my words.

Wherever I tread, all fingers rise to point; The whole world has turned from me, yet still, that finger holds sway.
Wherever I go, everyone points fingers at me. The world has turned away from me, yet it still points fingers.

If for her lashes' love, I become a public shame,Each finger feels to me like an arrow's cruel aim.
If I am pointed at (by fingers) because of my love for her eyelashes, then every finger feels like an arrow to me.

Each flower-bud, a single drop of blood, appears to be,Has one beheld a finger, bound with henna's artistry?
Every rosebud is like a drop of blood. Has anyone seen a fingertip stained with henna?

The fervor of the tongue causes the soul's consuming fire; Each candle here, for witness, is entirely a finger.
The sharpness of the tongue is the cause of the soul's burning. Here, every candle is entirely a finger for testimony.

If in my heart no blood remains, then what can be so strange? Each finger writhes, a fish beyond its watery range.
If no blood remains in my heart, then what's surprising? (Because) every one of my fingers writhes like a fish out of water.

Your mischief, it reveals our state, our heart's deep, hidden plea,A fingertip's thin veil it is, for secrets shattered for all to see.
Your playfulness reveals our condition. The finger is the one that unveils the secret of our shattered heart.

In what measure lies such subtle grace and tender feel, that like a flower,
What a degree of fineness and softness it possesses, that like a flower, it does not come into the grasp of a hand; rather, the finger merely gets to gaze upon it (point at it).

Each such finger strikes me like an arrow's dart.
I, who am infamous in the love for her captivating gaze, every finger feels like an arrow to me.
