अपनी जौलाँ-गाह ज़ेर-ए-आसमाँ समझा था मैं आब ओ गिल के खेल को अपना जहाँ समझा था मैं
معنی: I had thought my own little corner under the sky, And the play of water and earth was my whole world.
इश्क़ की इक जस्त ने तय कर दिया क़िस्सा तमाम इस ज़मीन ओ आसमाँ को बे-कराँ समझा था मैं
معنی: With a mere thread of love, the whole story was decided, I had taken the entire earth and sky for something endless.
कह गईं राज़-ए-मोहब्बत पर्दा-दारी-हा-ए-शौक़ थी फ़ुग़ाँ वो भी जिसे ज़ब्त-ए-फ़ुग़ाँ समझा था मैं
معنی: The secrets of love, the veiling of passion, Were those very sighs that I had thought I restrained.
थी किसी दरमाँदा रह-रौ की सदा-ए-दर्दनाक जिस को आवाज़-ए-रहील-ए-कारवाँ समझा था मैं
معنی: It was a painful cry, not of any madwoman, Which I had thought was the sound of a traveling caravan.
