1. गए जी से छूटे बुतों की जफ़ा से यही बात हम चाहते थे ख़ुदा से

   अर्थ: From the cruelty of abandoned idols, we sought refuge from God; this was the thing we wished from God.

2. जिगर सू-ए-मिज़्गाँ खिंचा जाए है कुछ मगर दीदा-ए-तर हैं लोहू के प्यासे

   अर्थ: Though the heart is drawn towards the river of longing, Yet the eyes are thirsty for the blood of tears.

3. टुक ऐ मुद्द'ई चश्म-ए-इंसाफ़ वा कर कि बैठे हैं ये क़ाफ़िए किस अदा से

   अर्थ: O pretender of the eye of justice, please do, / How these rhyming couplets sit with such grace.

4. न शिकवा शिकायत न हर्फ़-ओ-हिकायत कहो 'मीर' जी आज क्यूँ हो ख़फ़ा से

   अर्थ: Do not teach complaint, nor tale of stories, Say, 'Mir,' why are you angry today?
