1. सर में सौदा भी नहीं, दिल में तमन्ना भी नहीं लेकिन इस तर्क-ए-मोहब्बत का भरोसा भी नहीं

   अर्थ: Neither is there a deal in the hair, nor a desire in the heart, But there is no trust in this logic of love either.

2. दिल की गिनती न यगानों में, न बेगानों में लेकिन उस जलवा-गाह-ए-नाज़ से उठता भी नहीं

   अर्थ: Not in the counting of the heart, nor in the strangers' count, But even from that spectacle of grace, it does not rise.

3. मेहेरबानी को मोहब्बत नहीं कहते ए दोस्त आह अब मुझसे तेरी रंजिश बेजा भी नहीं

   अर्थ: Friend, they do not call favor 'love' or 'affection', Now, even your grievance is too much for me to bear.

4. आह ये मजमा-ए-अहबाब, ये बज्म-ए-खामोश आज महफिल में फिराक सुखन-आरा भी नहीं

   अर्थ: Oh, this gathering of beloved ones, this silent assembly, Today, even the eloquent poetry of separation is absent from the gathering.
