Ghazal
This ghazal is an emotional questioning poem, questioning the outcome of sharing one's sorrows and love to a beloved throughout the night or constantly reminiscing. The poet also suggests that even if he made false promises, the fact that he dedicated his heart completely to the beloved is significant. It speaks to the depth of love and the futility of excessive emotional investment.

If I told him all my sorrow throughout the night, what difference would it make? Or if I merely brushed my hair upon waking, what difference would it make?
What difference would it make if I told my sorrows to him all night, or if I merely brushed my hair every day upon waking?

They never even once questioned me as a liar,
So what if I declared it a thousand times?
They never even once questioned me as a liar, so what if I declared it a thousand times?

Though I didn't want him, why did I so freely give my heart,
What does it matter if I sold it to his hands?
Though he wasn't meant for me, why did I so freely give my heart, what does it matter if I sold it to his hands?

Now, if the beloved, whose charms have been stolen from me,
Should fall for my heart, then what would become of me?
Literally, the couplet means: Now, if the beloved, whose charms have been stolen from me, were to show affection towards my heart, then what would happen to me?

Do not deceive anyone, for you are yourself a trust; even if one builds a Kaaba by breaking hearts, what good is it?
Do not deceive anyone, because you yourself are a trust; even if one builds a Kaaba by breaking hearts, what good is it?

Even if I, the lord of praises, forget you, what harm would it do?
If the cruel one strikes with yet another arrow, what difference would it make?
Even if I, the master of poetry, forget you, what difference would it make? O cruel one, if you strike with yet another arrow, what difference would it make?

What prayers have been whispered in solitude, O Sheikh,
If raised from the world's visible sphere, what is it then?
It questions the Sheikh about the prayers whispered in solitude, and what would happen if those prayers were removed from the visible world.

Worry about obtaining the favor of the heart, my friend; what if I draped the garment of advice upon you?
Worry about gaining the affection of the heart; what if I draped the garment of advice upon you?

If I lived, Meer left only the stain on me;
If I were alive, Meer left only the stain on me; so what if I lit a lamp on the forehead?
