Ghazal
This ghazal explores the profound necessity of love, asserting that without the intense yearning (tughyan-e-mushtaqi) for the beloved, the poet's existence ceases. He states that his life's essence is this yearning, and he feels sustained by the presence of a confidant (dard-aashna) in the gathering. The verses also touch upon the enduring power of the beloved's memory and the brilliance of true emotion.

If not the stream of yearning, I cannot survive; / For what is my life but this stream of yearning?
If there is no stream of yearning, I cannot survive; for what is my life but this stream of yearning?

My nature compels me, step by step, to do so,
Perhaps in this gathering, a pain familiar remains.
My nature compels me, step by step, perhaps a familiar pain remains in this gathering.

Even today, your intoxicating breath can ignite the flames,
If my heart doesn't crave you, then what complaint can I make to the cupbearer?
Even today, your intoxicating breath can ignite the flames; if my heart does not crave you, then what complaint can I make to the cupbearer?

Do not judge the brilliance of this inherent quality by the glamour of a foreign light,
For its brilliance is not from electric lamps, but from its own intrinsic glow.

In hearts, the vast horizons do not stir, nor do the eyes, if the manner of the horizon is not born.
The vast horizons do not stir in the heart, nor do the eyes, if the manner of the horizon is not born (or perceived).

Even in autumn, when could I have arrived, in Sayyad's stubbornness,
My chamber was lacking the leaves of the garden's pleasure.
Even in autumn, when could I have arrived, in Sayyad's stubbornness; my chamber lacked the leaves of the garden's pleasure.

The plans will go wrong, the destinies will change,
It is not reality, it is merely my imagination's range.
The plans will go wrong, and the destinies will also change; this is not reality, but merely the scope of my imagination.
