अपने राज़िक़ को न पहचाने तो मुहताज-ए-मुलूक
और पहचाने तो हैं तेरे गदा दारा ओ जम
— Allama Iqbal
Meaning
If you fail to recognize your true master, you will remain dependent on the favor of kings; but if you recognize him, he is the beloved support of your palace.
Explanation
This powerful couplet is a profound warning about where we place our trust. Allama Iqbal advises us that if we fail to recognize our true patron or source of strength (our 'Raaziq'), we become utterly dependent on the whims of temporary worldly rulers (the 'Mulook'). But if we acknowledge that true source, then the rulers become mere playthings, or 'Gada Dara.' It’s a call to self-reliance and recognizing spiritual authority over worldly power.
