Ghazal
This ghazal explores the transient nature of a beloved's loyalty and the profound agony of unfulfilled desires, where every breath feels like fire. It portrays the universal human condition of distress, compelling all to lament. Ultimately, it alludes to a divine presence whose pervasive manifestation imbues the entire cosmos, even excusing its inherent restlessness.

One place bore loyalty's word, that too is now erased;Apparently, your letter's paper is faulty, its promise effaced.
In one place, the word of loyalty was written, but even that has been erased. It appears your letter's paper is faulty.

Why shouldn't my heart burn at the incomplete relish of annihilation? We are not consumed, though every breath is a shower of fire.
Why shouldn't my heart burn at the incompleteness of the relish of annihilation? We are not consumed, even though every breath is like a shower of fire.

A sound emerges from fire, when in water it finds its end,In helplessness, every soul to a mournful cry does bend.
A sound emerges from fire when it is extinguished in water. Similarly, everyone is compelled to make a mournful cry in their helplessness.

He Himself excuses every particle's wild, drunken state,Whose manifestation makes earth to sky brim with joyous elation.
He Himself is the one who excuses the wild intoxication of every particle. It is by His manifestation that everything from earth to sky is brimming with joy.

Do not tell me you once called me your very life,For even from life itself, my heart is weary these days.
Do not tell me you once called me your life. These days, my heart is even weary of life itself.

An eye's image on the title I portrayed,So to you its yearning for sight is displayed.
I have drawn the image of an eye on the title page, so that it may become clear to you that it (the eye/person) has an intense longing to see you.

Such is the wonder, it makes caution itself lie low,The idol's finger-nail, a sick lip's mole, does show.
Such is the wonder that caution itself has fallen prostrate and become helpless. The fingernail of the beloved's finger is like a mole on a sick lip.

Alas, to place 'night' 'twixt the t tresses is not possible,
Else a hundred Doomsdays stand as pledge for the cheek's pure light.
Alas, it is not possible to place 'night' amidst the tresses. Otherwise, a hundred Doomsdays stand as a pledge for the pure radiance of the cheek.

In thought, the madness for the beloved's eyelashes resides,A hundred life-veins, like a path, to a lancet-field it yields.
In thought, the obsession for the tips of the beloved's eyelashes resides. A hundred life-veins, like a path, are dedicated to a field of lancets.

So vast the ruin, faith and doubt alike lie scattered low;The dust of Haram's desert to the sacred thread-lane does flow.
So extensive is the desolation that both disbelief and faith have been turned upside down. The dust from the desert of Haram has reached up to the lane of the sacred thread.

O troubled head, the pride of love and honour's preservation,On one side, obsession's fire; on the other, the turban's expectation.
O troubled head, on one side there is the pride of love and the preservation of honor, and on the other side, there is obsession and the obligation of the turban (symbolizing social status).

In union, my heart a strange wait does keep,
But mischief is needed, desire's ruin to heap.
Even during moments of union, the heart holds a strange anticipation, but mischief is necessary for the ruin of desires.

Asad, our homes are laid waste by the boldness of our claims; The wall's own shadow is a flood for its very doors and frames.
Asad, our homes are ruined by the audacity of our claims. The wall's own shadow becomes a flood for its doors and frames.
