'साकिन' (निवासी) का फ़ारसी बहुवचन रूप, जिसका अर्थ किसी स्थान पर रहने वाले लोग हैं। इस शे'र में यह माशूक़ की गली में बसने वाले लोगों को पुकारने के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ है।

व्युत्पत्ति

Arabic 'sākin' (resident, from root s-k-n, to reside/be quiet) combined with the Persian plural suffix '-ān'.

प्रयोग

Commonly used in classical ghazal as an address (nida) with izafat to evoke the residents of the beloved's lane or other symbolic spaces.
