शास्त्रीय शायरी में 'महरमी' का अर्थ महबूब के निकट होने, उसका भेद जानने या अंतरंग आत्मीयता पाने की अवस्था है। प्रस्तुत शे'र में आशिक़ सौंदर्य के रहस्य और घनिष्ठ मिलन के लिए तरस रहा है, भले ही उसका रोआं-रोआं आँख बनकर दीदार में लीन हो चुका हो।

व्युत्पत्ति

Arabic root ḥ-r-m (from 'maḥram', meaning sacred, inviolable, or intimate relative), combined with the Persian abstract noun suffix '-ī'.

प्रयोग
