उर्दू शायरी में 'ख़ुशामद' का अर्थ चापलूसी या किसी को रिझाने के लिए की जाने वाली झूठी प्रशंसा है। इस शे'र में आशिक़ कहता है कि महबूब के ख़ातिर वह उन लोगों की भी बद-ज़बानी बर्दाश्त कर रहा है जिनकी चापलूसी करना कभी उसके लिए अत्यंत अपमानजनक और शर्मनाक था।

व्युत्पत्ति

Persian 'khushāmad' (خوشامد), from 'khwush' (pleasing/good) + 'āmad' (coming/arrival), which evolved into the sense of flattering welcome or praise.

प्रयोग

In classical poetry, 'khushamad' carries a strong negative moral connotation, often contrasted with the lover's dignity and pride.
