विस्तार

फ़ारसी के 'आशामीदन' (पीना) से बना 'आशामी' किसी तरल या लाक्षणिक रूप से आग को पीने की क्रिया को दर्शाता है। प्रस्तुत शेर में यह 'आतिश-आशामी' (आग पीना) के रूप में आया है, जिसका आशय इश्क़ और रूहानी तड़प के अंगारों को निगलने और उससे जीवन पाने से है।

व्युत्पत्ति

Persian, from the present stem 'āshām' of 'āshāmīdan' (to drink, consume) combined with the nominal suffix '-ī'.
